Brenter Balkone: Smart Access for a Family Business

After many years of tradition, it was time for Brenter Balkone to take the next step—digitisation. From optimising production processes to access control, the company has successfully navigated this transformation. One of the key steps along the way was implementing Tapkey to make access management easier, more flexible, and more secure. But how did they achieve this, and what benefits did they gain? Let’s find out.

Who is Brenter Balkone?

Brenter Balkone is a true family business and has been for over 100 years. What started as a small wagon-making workshop in Hallein has since relocated to Oberndof bei Salzburg and grown into a leader in the production of balcony railings and solar balconies. Their motto? Every balcony is more than just a railing—it’s a living space, a place for relaxation. And the Brenters design these spaces for their customers with passion, precision, and decades of expertise.

The Challenge: Ending Key Chaos

Like many growing businesses, Brenter Balkone eventually faced the classic problem: too many keys leading to chaos and confusion. It was especially frustrating when a key was lost—it meant reorganising the entire locking system, which required significant effort and added costs.

“We urgently needed a solution that would allow us to easily create new keys and immediately block lost ones,” says Bernd Brenter.

The need for an efficient and flexible access control solution became increasingly clear. That’s when they decided on a smart access solution that not only solved the key management issue but also offered additional benefits in terms of security and ease of use.

The Solution: Tapkey – Simple, Secure, Flexible

In 2019, Brenter Balkone made the decision to implement Tapkey. Bernd recalls: “We started with two locks in the office and have gradually expanded the system. Now we also have the gates to our production hall and several additional doors in the office equipped with Tapkey.”

The best part? Installation was a breeze. “Old lock out, new lock in, add it to the lock group in the app, and you’re good to go!” No complicated technology, just a smart solution that works reliably.

The Brenters are particularly impressed by the flexibility of the system: if a key is lost, they can easily block the corresponding NFC transponder without needing to replace the entire locking system. This simple management and ability to handle specific components make Tapkey an especially practical solution.

Day-to-Day Use

At Brenter Balkone, most doors are unlocked via NFC transponder rather than smartphone, which suits the company’s daily operations better.

“The biggest advantage for us is how easily we can adjust access rights—whether it’s access to the production hall, the office, or specific areas,” explains Bernd Brenter.

This flexibility and ease of use are exactly what make Tapkey so valuable to the company.

“We’re very satisfied with the system and would recommend it to anyone looking for a reliable, low-maintenance, and adaptable access solution,” Bernd adds.

The straightforward operation and the ability to manage access rights quickly and accurately have made a big difference for Brenter Balkone, making their day-to-day operations much smoother.

What’s Next?

Brenter Balkone is ready for the future—and Tapkey will continue to play a key role. The system has proven itself, is incredibly easy to use, and saves the company a lot of time and hassle. This allows the team to fully focus on what truly matters: finding the perfect solutions for their customers, whether it’s classic balcony railings or innovative solar balconies.
